 2023

OBITUARY

Beloved husband, father, and sound designer at the Alley Theater, Pierre Robert Dupree lost his nearly five year battle with cancer on February 17th, 2023. He was 46 years old. He is survived by his wife Jessica, his children Devin and Lisette; as well as his parents, Susan and Scott Dupree, his brother Christian Dupree, his sister Caroline Link and her husband Marcelo Link, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was born on January 15th, 1977 in a small hospital in Rome, Italy and had the honor of being baptized in St. Peter’s Basilica.  Though he lived mostly in Dallas, Texas, as a child he had the great fortune of living in both Besancon, France and Singapore, fostering in him an affinity for different cultures and love of French.  He developed a love of music from a very early age playing piano, guitar, and his favorite, drums.  After graduating from Jesuit College Preparatory in Dallas, he received a BA in Theater Arts from the University of Dallas in 1999.  Upon earning an MA at CalArts in 2002, he made his love of music and sound his career, first as the Sound Supervisor at the Pasadena Playhouse in Los Angeles, and then the Sound Director at the Alley Theater in Houston, TX for 15 years, where he was instrumental in the design of the entire sound system as part of their rebuild in 2013-2015.  His laugh was infectious and his energy for life carried him far longer than most patients with his diagnosis. He was one of a kind and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and work colleagues.  He leaves behind a legacy of many friendships, memories of great laughter, numerous original musical compositions for the theater, and an extensive collection of Nintendo video games.

A service will be held for him on Saturday, February 25th at 1:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church located at 2929 Woodland Hills Kingwood, TX 77339. At 4:00 p.m. there will be a reception at the Alley Theatre 615 Texas Ave, Houston, TX 77002.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the college fund setup for Pierre’s children by the Alley Theatre would be greatly appreciated. https://fundraise.givesmart.com/form/pVEECw?vid=x99dm

  1. You were a great man. One of the fellow January birthdays in our Rome semester. I will always remember your smile and how well you played Julius Caeser in Rome during the Marc Anthony speech (you would have had to have been there).
The world is more silent without you.

  2. I never had the chance to meet Pierre but my son takes art lessons with his wife. Jessica is amazing and I can tell she loved Pierre and their family with the utmost respect and adoration. Keeping your family in our thoughts, hearts and prayers.

  3. Pierre was a gift to all who crossed his path. There are numerous “Pierre-isms” that will live rent free in my brain forever. He was the most hilarious person in the theater at any time, but also had a gentle, kind heart. I cherish the memory of working on sound for A Christmas Carol with him. So many of us will keep his spirit alive in our hearts. Sending many prayers to Jessica and his family.

  4. Very saddened by the news of Pierre’s passing. We knew him as a friend of our son Eldric at Cistercian Preparatory. Our deepest sympathy to Susan, Scott, Caroline and Christian as well as to Pierre’s little family whom we have never met. May God bless you and keep you.
