He joined the United States Army as a young man and was stationed in Puerto Rico.  He served until February 28, 1965.
Les married the mother of his children on May 31, 1969 in Corpus Christi, Texas.  His son, Kevin Lee was born on February 19, 1973.  His daughter, Darla Michelle was born on October 26, 1974.  Les was a loving father who cherished his kids.  He would do anything for his kids and was a wonderful provider throughout their childhood and into their adult years.
He started his working career with Coats and Clarks.  He spent 37 successful years in the Air Conditioning and Heating business before retiring at the age of 68.  He worked very hard providing for his family.
Les turned his life over to Christ as his Lord and Savior at his parent’s home around 1989.  He was a bold witness to everyone he came in contact with.  There was no doubt his love for Christ.
On January 17, 1998 Les married his loving wife Jean.  Jean was his “angel”.  He doted and loved her with all his heart.  They traveled the world enjoying many cruises and trips together.  They are members of Second Baptist Church in Kingwood where they worshipped and fellowshipped with their church family.  Along with his marriage came three wonderful step children and their husbands, Donna Lamb and Ronnie Lamb, Delton Hayes, Dawn Stroud and Bruce Stroud.  Seven step grandchildren; Ronnie Lamb, Tara Shira, Dallas Lamb, Blake Stroud, Brooke Stroud, Hannah Hayes, and Heath Hayes.  He also has six step great grandchildren, William Shira, Lilly Shira, Landon Shira, Leeland Shira, Addison Kate Lamb, and Laney Greenawalt.
Les was involved in Mission Northeast where he volunteered his time helping others.  This was his passion to help others in any way he could.  He loved counseling and the opportunity to share the Gospel with others.  He was also a Gideon for a short time until his illness would not allow him to serve.
In 2006 Les was diagnosed with esophageal cancer that he fought and won his battle for many years.  In April 2014, he was diagnosed with lung cancer.  He went through treatments and fought this battle hard.  On February 4, 2015 he met his Lord and Savior.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.   But we know we will one day meet again in a more glorious place.
