OBITUARY

Nancy Davis Pinkerton, age 74, passed on while at home with her husband on Tuesday, February 15, 2022.

Nancy, “Mrs. P”, was born on April 26, 1947 in Henderson, TX as the only child to Vaughn and Gladys Davis.  After attending Henderson High School, she moved to Nacogdoches, TX and studied at Stephen F. Austin University where she earned a B.S. degree in Home Economics.  She furthered her education and subsequently completed her master’s degree in Education at Sam Houston State University.

While attending SFA, Nancy (amongst friends and sisters in the Delta Zeta Sorority then known as “Nancy Nice”) met her loving husband James “Jim” Pinkerton.  The two were wed on April 4, 1969.  Shortly thereafter they each began their married lives and careers in Humble, TX eventually settling in Kingwood a few years later.  Nancy began her teaching career in Aldine ISD teaching elementary school students at three schools spanning between 1969-1980.  She then joined Humble ISD at Bear Branch Elementary in August of 1980, eventually becoming Assistant Principal at Lakeland Elementary in 1984, and then Principal at Greentree Elementary and Willow Creek Elementary in Kingwood through 2020.  Her teaching career spanned 53 years where she taught, loved, mentored, and molded the lives of thousands of students, colleagues, and families in our community.

Nancy’s impact didn’t stop at education but continued through service in the Kingwood United Methodist Church where she served for many years on numerous committees, groups, and activities.  Her most favorite times with the church were serving our youth at U.M. Army as a leader and cook at their weeklong events.  Many will miss her banana pudding and macaroni and cheese.

Lastly, she had a serious love for basketball, and more importantly watching her students through the years at all levels of basketball from elementary through college.  She found no greater joy than rounding up the grandkids or “the Greentree girls” and heading off to watch University of Houston basketball games and seeing her sports hero Fabian White Jr. (Greentree Alum) dazzle her and the Cougar fans.

Left here to honor and remember Nancy along with Jim Pinkerton are their two children Scott Pinkerton, and Julie Pinkerton Brewer. Scott and Julie’s spouses, Camille Landry, and Lance Brewer.  Four grandchildren, Emma and Elise Pinkerton, and Davis and Cole Brewer.  Two nieces, Kelly Higgins, and Maggie Thomas.

Services honoring Nancy and her life will be held on Saturday, February 26 at Kingwood United Methodist Church beginning at 11:00 AM, followed immediately with an open reception until 2:00 PM.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers being sent, those wishing to express their love, gratitude, and remembrance of her to please donate to the Kingwood United Methodist Church at www.kingwoodumc.org/give

  1. I had the pleasure of meeting Nancy once when I was a guest teacher in KPH. She was so sweet and personable. Her presence will be greatly missed.

  2. I am so sorry to hear about Nancy. She was a rock and was able to step in and help her students and staff. I know that I am so grateful when a student had been hit by a car and she seemed to calmly keep things under control as one example of who she was. I know she will be missed by everyone who knew her and her caring for others.

  3. Our most deepest condolences to the family. Wishing you comfort and peace to face the days ahead and loving memories to hold in your heart.

  4. Nancy’s contributions and legacy will live on through the countless students and educators whose lives she touched. Those of us who knew her were blessed by having known her. My heart goes out to her family and friends.

  6. I only knew Nancy for a few months as I am the new Instructional Math coach at Bear Branch but we spoke on a daily basis. I am the reason for the hot chocolate machine she purchased and loved so much! Every time I take my machine out I will think of her and have a cup in her honor. My thoughts and prayers are with you all!

  7. Nancy was an amazing lady and an even greater person. I was so fortunate to get to work with her during her time at Willowcreek. With deepest sympathy- Donnie

  10. Miss Pinkerton to me was always miss Pinkerton. She was such a beautiful woman and a mentor and I just loved her to death. She was my teacher at Johnson Elementary as many of our friends and younger sisters and brothers. We all loved Miss Pinkerton. I guess we could not have imagined her my heart is broken tonight as I remember her. All I can remember is how she used to scratch her neck with her hands going upwards to her cheek. I remember her hair it was so pretty and red. I was in fourth grade when she brought one of her babies to the class and they were the most beautiful babies I have ever seen. This is a teacher that will always be in my heart. She was so caring and loving and she used to love the way I sang. I was in the choir for 4th and 5th grade. She just love the way I sang. I saw her years later after I was married with my second child and that was the first thing she asked me if I was still singing somewhere. That brought such a smile to my face that she remembered me. My heart is truly broken that she is gone. I know why God gives us angels to bring into our lives to help us to make us feel better as she did and enlighten the lives of others. All I can say is what a beautiful lady, and a child of Christ she was. Thank you Lord for giving us miss Pinkerton to make a difference in our lives!!

  11. Mrs. Pinkerton, I was graced by your light so many years ago and the warmth of it I have never forgotten. I will love and miss you always.

  12. I’m 50 now and I can hardly remember all the teachers I had over the years. But I remember Mrs. Pinkerton and for all the right reasons: she was a wonderful teacher and just a truly nice person. Condolences to her family and friends.

  13. Many years ago, I was doubly blessed when Mrs. Pinkerton became not only my second grade teacher but my third grade teacher as well. I immediately loved her. I will be forever grateful that she touched my life. R.I.P.
Mrs Pinkerton and thank you for making such a big impact on my life. ❤️ #johnsonelementary1974-1980

  14. Nancy was principal at Greentree Elementary when my daughter attended there until Pinkerton went to Willow Creek. I was always a parent volunteer then and at the school a lot, and I had a great relationship with her. Wherever Nancy’s career took her, I knew she was there advocating for the students. This year even in retirement, Nancy could be found working at Bear Branch Elementary where my granddaughter attends. She refused to quit doing what she loved — working with students. Rest In Peace dear Nancy, you will be missed. Prayers for all her family and friends.

  15. I worked for Humble ISD for 28 years in the maintenance department. It was my pleasure to serve Nancy and her students during those years. She had an unending passion to always do what’s best for her students and staff. I was blessed to know her. God bless her and her family. Side note: Nancy I’m still sorry my guys messed up the tree at Greentree. (She’ll know what I’m talking about).

  16. My daughter attended Greentree Elementary when Nancy was principal there in the late 80s. As a parent volunteer during that time, I had a deep respect for Nancy. In recent months, even in retirement, Nancy was on staff at Bear Branch elementary where my granddaughter currently attends. Never giving up what she loves best, advocating for students. My sincere condolences to her family and friends.

  17. You are a light to so many! I will miss our texts, lunches/dinners, and basketball talks. Most of all, I will miss what you gave not just to students but teachers too. You were more than admin., you were family. I love and miss you!

  18. This year at BBE I had the pleasure of working with Nancy. It was an honor to have known this respected educator that created relationships with students and staff members.

  19. Nancy was such a blessing to me! Professionally she was a role model and as we battled at MDA together, she was a voice of perpetual positivity. I am deeply saddened by her passing, not many match her level of energy and grace. Prayers for her family and close friends.

  20. I knew Nancy as one of the WAVE soccer team moms. She was always a rock, alongside her husband Jim, willing and capable to assist in any way needed by the team. Thank you for all you did for the team, your students and community Nancy. You will be missed by so many.. Blessings to all her family and friends.

  21. I am at a complete loss of words. Mrs. Pinkerton has been there with me since day one. She was a kind soul with a pure heart, full of love, and kindness. She was always cheering me on and encouraging me even when I doubted myself. From my kindergarten year at Greentree to my college years she loved me unconditionally. She became more than a teacher and principle. She was a very important part of my family. Although my heart is broken, I thank God for allowing me the honor to have meet and loved her. I will miss our talks and text. I will miss seeing your beautiful face at the games. I know you won’t be there physically but your spirit will always remain with me. I love you Mrs. Pinkerton. Until we me again….

  22. Nancy was such a remarkable person!!!! Her energy, kindness and her true compassion for others was seen on all she did. If you knew her, you loved her. She would never give up on a student or staff member because she was a genuine servant leader. It was a privilege to know her, learn from her and call her friend. Thank you to Nancy’s family for sharing her with all of us!!

  23. We got to know Nancy Pinkerton while our youngest son Kevin was at Greentree Elementary and just loved what she did at Greentree Elementary. We later interacted with her frequently at Kingwood United Methodist Church where she served so visibly. We just took communion from her at The Vine a few weeks ago. So sorry to hear of this remarkable woman’s sudden passing. I’m totally confident she is with her Savior receiving her reward – and probably serving in some sort of leadership role.

You inspired so many and finished so well, Mrs. Pinkerton. Thank you.

  24. When we moved to Kingwood from out of state in 2013, my boys transferred to Willow Creek. Mrs. Pinkerton was the very first person we spoke to, and it was obvious from that first moment that we had chosen a wonderful school! We were all very nervous on my boys’ first day at their new school, but she was so welcoming and made us all feel at home. My boys attended first through fifth grade at WCE, and Mrs. Pinkerton was always involved with the students– helping Safety Patrol with car rider line, giving treats to all the dogs in cars; dressing up for Patriot’s Day; and little everyday things like reading to the students. She was adored by all the students, as well as the staff and parents. She was a true example of servant leadership and her presence at school and in the community will be greatly missed. We were so blessed to have been a part of the WCE family and will always remember and be inspired by her kindness.

  25. Mrs. Pinkerton
When the mold of an educator was made you broke it! I watched as you ran Greentree Elementary like a “well oiled machine”. Your wisdom and knowledge of the education system was unparalled. My daughter loved having you as a principle. I had no idea that our journey would’nt stop there. A health diagnoses brought us together again and we learned to lean on each other for support and comfort. May you now rest in peace. To the Pinkerton family, just now that she is in good hands and will be truly missed!

  26. Jim, I just learned about your loss of Nancy from the SFA Alumni magazine. I ‘m so sorry for you and your family.

  27. Ms. Pinkerton was my 4th and 5th grade teacher at Johnson Elementary. I remember her and Ms. Porter gave me rides home sometimes because I didn’t want to ride the bus. I went to her home several times after school. I remember her singing Bennie and the Jets by Elton John in the car. I remember she was pregnant with her daughter and brought her to class when she was a newborn. I remember the wisdom and kindness she taught me. Years later, we crossed paths again when she was at Greentree. She remembered me then! I emailed her about 4 years ago to say hello and she remembered me still. What a positive impact she was in my life and the life’s of many others. Thank you Ma. Pinkerton. Prayers for the family.
