OBITUARY

Michael Lane Mashburn, 72, was welcomed into the kingdom of Heaven on February 26, 2022. He was a beloved husband, father, and Papa. Mike was a faithful man who loved the Lord and his family.

Mike was born to the late Leland and Ruby Mashburn in DeQueen, Arkansas on August 29, 1949. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1971. Mike relocated to Houston and worked for Cooper Oil Tools and established his long career in the oil and gas industry. He met the love of his life, Karen Bachman, on a date arranged by mutual friends. The two married on March 17th, 1979.

Mike was a quietly faithful man whose constant presence in the church pew helped to form the basis of his family’s faith journey. Mike loved to travel and shared that love with his wife and daughters his entire life. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his Creator.

Mike is survived by his wife, Karen; his daughters Lindsay (Toug) Plilar and Stephanie Mashburn; and his grandchildren JD and Elise Plilar. He is preceded in death by his parents.

  1. As Karen’s high school friend and a bridesmaid at their wedding, my first real impression of Mike was when he said ‘Go Hawgs’ as part of his toast to the guests! That showed me what a fun loving guy he was and that he was perfect for Karen. Yes, he’ll be missed but always remembered through our memories. ❤

  2. May God’s peace and comfort be felt for all of you as you go through this difficult time. This great man will be missed.

  3. Godspeed to one of the great ones gone to soon. It seems like only yesterday that we enjoyed a Chez Nous dinner with you and Mike. I will always remember the excellent wine he chose for the evening. I’ll never forget my last visit with him and the joy and pride he showed when sharing his amazing cut glass collection with me. His knowledge of cut glass was immense and showed his great love for the collection. He will be greatly missed. I will cherish the memories. And I pray God brings his family comfort.

  4. So many fond memories with 40+ years of friendship with Mike and Karen.
I admired the man that Mike was on so many levels. He was a loving and thoughtful
husband, a caring and kind father to Lindsay and Stephanie, and a proud Papa to his Grands. He was a lover of “ the finer things” and his passion and knowledge of cut glass amazed me. I only wish I had taken notes, when we lasted talked about it.
Mike will be missed by all those who knew, loved, or called him a friend.
My thoughts and prayers are with you, Karen, Lindsay, Stephanie and extended family. Wishing you God’s Peace and Comfort in the days to come.

  5. I worked with “Mash” at Cameron and he was a friend and mentor… I still miss carrying on about our beloved Razorbacks. RIP, and thought and prayers to his family. He will be greatly missed. Go Hogs Go WPS…

  6. I was saddened to hear of Mike’s passing and want to send my condolences to those he left behind. I worked with Mike at Cameron and we traveled together quite a bit before the end of our careers there. He was a good man and I will remember him in my prayers.

  7. I saw Mike’s obit in this morning’s Chronicle. Although I’ve not seen him in many years, I was saddened, remembering him as a little boy in DeQueen. His grandad and my dad were friends, and when Mike first moved to Houston, he came by and visited with my mom and me. He let me know when he met the beautiful young lady who became his wife, and I am happy to know he has had a good life, loved by many, and remaining the sweet, thoughtful man he was when I last saw him. May he rest peacefully. My condolences to all concerned. Glennie Scott
