OBITUARY

Melinda Suzanne “Suzy” Simmons, beloved Mother, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother and Friend to many passed peacefully to be with her Lord, with family at her side on January 28, 2023, at her residence in Conroe, TX.  Suzy was 65 years of age. She had lived most of her life in Houston, TX and considered it home.

She was born in Los Angeles County, California on September 7, 1957, to Talmadge and Melma (nee Boddie) Saucier.

Following the death of both parents in June 1959, Suzy and her siblings relocated to Shreveport, Louisiana.  She excelled in her studies, graduating in 1974 at the age of 16 from Baptist Christian Academy.  Suzy attended Louisiana Tech University, completing her Bachelor’s in audiology and speech-language pathology in three years and soon thereafter earned her Master’s in speech pathology.

Upon graduation Suzy moved to Wichita, Kansas where she worked for Crystal Oil as a pathologist performing hearing screenings.  After the birth of her son in 1982 they moved to Houston, Texas where she worked as a speech therapist and teacher at private and public schools in the greater Houston area.  Suzy went on to establish her own private practice speech therapy clinic where she had a major impact helping countless children in the field of speech, language and learning.

She loved her profession and especially seeing all the success from the children she was able to help over the years.  Suzy loved her church, praising and professing her love for the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Melma A. “Mimi” Cole and Kathryn M. “Kathy” Moore.

Suzy is survived by her son, Chris Clegg, his wife Kristin and granddaughters, Madison, Emma, and Everleigh; her sister, Darlene and husband, Bud Dennis; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and her stepchildren who she loved dearly.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all who cared for Suzy with kindness and compassion as she courageously battled multiple myeloma over the past 7 years, including Connie Thompson, Melanie & Billy Dodd, Open Arms Personal Care, the Buckner family, Brittany Sanchez and Crystal Markham.

A Celebration of Life for Suzy was held Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 10:30 AM, The Crossing Church – 6265 Shadowbend PL – The Woodlands, TX 77381

  2. My husband and I will truly miss Suzy. We introduced her to Christ many, many years ago. She became a very strong believer and touched many lives spiritually as well as physically as a speech pathologist. She loved all her patients and gave her all to them.
She was a warm, gentle, kind, loving person who was always ready to help in any way she could. And she was a strong witness for Christ everywhere she went.
We will truly miss you, Suzy. But one day we will meet again in glory when we all get to Heaven. And what a glorious that will be!. We love you, Suzy!

  3. Suzy and I would grow close, lose touch and then get back in contact and grow close again. She knew how to LOVE people, especially children. She poured out herself over and over again for those she loved. I watched over the years as she ministered to her clients. Through her cancer she grew closer and closer to the Lord, and her faith became so strong! As her life here grew to a close, she knew EXACTLY where she was going. I will miss our chats and that radiant smile!
