Mark Edward DeKoekkoek, age 54, of Kingwood, TX, passed away after a long battle with cancer on 12/10/22. Mark was born in Kalamazoo, MI, on May 6, 1968.
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Kristin (Blind) DeKoekkoek and 2 sons, Ryan and Grant DeKoekkoek.
He is also survived by his parents, Edward and Ruth Ann DeKoekkoek (Wyma) of Grand Haven, MI, sisters, Lois Andrakowicz (Citrus Heights, CA), Deborah Smith (Charles Jr) of Kalamazoo, MI, Mary Louise Smith (Christopher) of Schoolcraft, MI, Faith Engel (Mark) of Grand Haven, MI, and 11 nieces and nephews.
Mark graduated from Grand Haven High School in 1986 and attended Michigan State University. He graduated with a B.A. in Criminal Justice in 1990. He spent his career as a Special Agent in the Federal Government’s Homeland Security Department, where he served as a member of the SRT team. Mark spent his career protecting his family, friends and the public from harm.
The family is served by Darst Funeral Home, 796 Russell Palmer Road, Kingwood, TX. Visitation will be Friday, 12/17 from 5-7pm. The Funeral Mass will be Saturday, 12/18, at 11am at Strawbridge United Methodist Church, 5629 Kingwood Dr., Kingwood, TX. There will be a lunch reception following the service at the church. Memorial donations in memory of Mark can be made to the Strawbridge United Methodist Church in Kingwood, TX.
A visitation will be held at Darst Funeral Home, 700 Russell Palmer Road, Kingwood, Texas 77339, on Friday, December 16, 2022 from 5-7 pm. Funeral Services will be held at Strawbridge United Methodist Church, 5629 Kingwood Drive, Kingwood, Texas 77345, on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 11:00 am, Reception to follow at the church.

In the 24 years that I knew Mark he was a dedicated public servant and was someone you could always rely on. He always had a good attitude regardless of the assignment he was given. He will be missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
I knew Mark for a long time, mostly on SRT. He was a great guy to work with and someone you could always count on. He will be sorely missed. Rest in peace my friend.
I met Mark in 1998 shortly after I arrived in the SAC Houston office. The SRT sent 4 agents from Houston to one of the first SRT schools at Ft. Benning, GA. Mark and I were the only two from SAC Houston that passed all the firearms and physical qualifications the first day which allowed us to stay and complete the two week training. After those two weeks, I remember thinking to myself, “if I ever need something, I can count on Dekoekkoek”. Rest In Peace Mark
I also knew Mark from our many years together on the Special Response Team. He was a great co-worker. Mark always had a good attitude. He was willing to do whatever it took to do the job, the preparations, the training, etc. He volunteered for the dirty work. I am very thankful for the time I spent with him. He was a friend to all and an all-around great person. He will be missed by so many. For his family, please know that he was an inspiration to us all in how he conducted himself. Mark is someone I am proud to say I knew. Rest in peace my SRT brother.

To Mark’s family, I am so sorry for your great loss. I am sure your hearts are heavy at this time. As a former co-worker, I can attest to Mark’s commitment to protecting his family, friends, and the public from harm. I had the privilege of working with Mark on several occasions. He was definitely easygoing but conveyed a very direct and authoritative message when necessary, like during any enforcement action. I knew him to help anyone needing it and to do his job to the best of his ability.
After I retired, I would occasionally run into him at the YMCA. He was keeping fit to protect and serve the public and his family more effectively. He will be missed. I pray for God’s comfort for you all.

Mark and I were in the same air group at the air branch. I got to know him for the fine qualities he showed even at the beginning of his career. Mark was always eager to learn and do any tasking. We became good friends and I looked forward to hitting the gym with Mark. Even on days when I tried to skip the gym Mark would in his own way talk me into going. His humbleness is his most memorable trait to me. What a truly honorable and good guy. My most sincere condolences to his family.
