Obituary

Joan Warren, 74, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 9, 2023, in Tomball, TX.  Born March 27, 1949, in Crystal City, TX to Joel Perry Payne Sr and Virginia Mae Crawford.  Joan graduated from Durham Business School in 1967 and worked for Mutual of New York (MONY) from 1982-1998, John Hancock from 1998-2002, and TCOR Management from 2002-2016.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Perry and Virginia Payne, and her beloved husband and best friend of nearly 30 years, Richard A Warren. A love that began as high school sweethearts and was so strong as to lead them back to each other those many years later.

She leaves behind her sisters, Judith Chapman and Janet Raybin, her brothers, Joel Perry Payne Jr and Jerry Payne and wife Leslie.  She also leaves behind three children, Robert E Stoddard Jr, Heather Gomez and husband Jesus, and Ricky Warren and wife Katie, her seven grandchildren, Robert E Stoddard III and wife Kendra, William Stoddard, Victoria Stoddard, Jesus C Gomez Jr, Gabriel Gomez, Avery Warren, and Dakota Hauff, and her five great grandchildren, Ayden Stoddard, Paityn Stoddard, Avena Nelson, Jayden Gomez, and Blithe Gomez, plus many so many more family and friends.

Devoted daughter, wife, mother, aunt. stepmother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, coworker, church member, community member, and so much more…….  She will be dearly missed by all.  A celebration of life to be held in Joan’s honor, time and place to be announced.

  1. So sorry to hear of her passing. My childhood remembrance of the Payne family is of Jerry who I went to school with. Probably until 5th grade. I remember Janet too but just that she was a sister. And Mrs Payne was a good friend of my mom. We lived on W Lake St and the Paynes lived on W Dimmit St.

    The Andersons are saddened by your loss. Joan was sister Margaret’s classmate. Of course, growing up in Crystal City, we all knew each other. Condolences to Joan, Joel, & Jerry.

  4. Joan was so bright, energetic and a very pretty redhead! Her devotion to Richard an inspiration, they were supportive loving partners and friends in their marriage.
    It was a privilege to have known her and offer my sincere condolences to her family.

    My good personal friend & co-worker Joan was a very special person….we had lots of fun together….she was smart, pretty, fun, energetic, very kind, a hard worker & loved her family very much….especially her children & husband…..I am so sad that she is gone & I will miss her very much……..
