OBITUARY

Bruce W. Bakke died at home on March 19, 2023, surrounded by his adoring family. Bruce fought a long and hard health battle including a liver transplant in 2017 and was on dialysis for many years due to kidney failure.

Bruce was born on April 23, 1959 in Superior Wisconsin, the son of Bruce A. and Nancy Bakke. He graduated from Fergus Falls High School in Fergus Falls Minnesota.  He went on to graduate from Morehead State University with a degree in Accounting.  Bruce spent his entire adult career with the National Credit Union Administration, an independent federal government agency.  During his 30 year career with NCUA, Bruce held many positions including Credit Union Examiner, Problem Case Officer, Supervisory Examiner, Corporate Field Supervisor, and at the time of his retirement in 2013, he was the Special Assistant to the Director.  Bruce was awarded many accolades for his dedication including Supervisor of the Year.  Bruce was working in Oklahoma City at the time of the federal building bombing in 1995. He received special acknowledgment from the United States Government and Oklahoma City for the work he did to assist in reopening the credit union located inside the Murrah Building.  This was an extremely emotional time for Bruce as well as his most rewarding time during his 30 year career.

Upon retirement, Bruce’s love of baseball led him to organize a select baseball league, The Elite.  This was Bruce’s true passion and he loved coaching and watching the boys excel. The team traveled across the country to compete in various tournaments, many of which they took home the championship.

  1. Lisa and family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I have missed spending time with you, and I will never forget my first few trips with the Bakke family when I took a new position at NCUA in 1996 and after then. Please take care, and you will be in my prayers.

  2. Lisa,

I don’t know if you remember me but I also had so many fond memories of sharing time with you Bruce and your children on trips across the country while working the corporate program. I cannot tell you how much I appreciated Bruce during those times and truly enjoyed working for him. I am so sorry for your loss and you are in my thoughts and prayers. God bless!
