OBITUARY

Our precious son, William Cary Kinison arrived to join our family on March 13, 1989. He left us on October 14, 2020. He was 31 years old.

That is accurate information but it doesn’t give you a picture of who William really was. I would like to share with you a few “snapshots” of his life.

He brought incredible joy to our lives from the day he was born. His brothers were so very anxious to meet him.

Prior to his birth Philip had begun to call him “Hammerhead,” and his other brothers, David & Richard soon followed Philips lead and it became a favorite name when they were joking around! David said, “God gave Philip divine knowledge of William’s God-given name, “Hammerhead!”

William walked and talked in full sentences by 9 months and would give instructions about how he wanted his bottle and how to fix his covers when we put him to bed!

When William was 4 years old, we told him “Don’t get into a car with strangers!” He took us literally and absolutely refused to get into the car when Mama came to pick him up and had a “stranger,” who was actually Mama’s friend, with her.

Geoff loved reading to our boys! They especially loved it when he read “Grimm’s Fairy Tales” with a German accent! We had sleepovers & to get the guys to settle down he would read to them  from  a   book   about  engineering. They would go to sleep in about 10 minutes!!!

Geoff taught them that stopping at Exxon meant stopping for food, even if we were just running errands! They loved it.

William was five years old and he loved going to church and seeing him all dressed up in his little suit carrying a huge Bible was quite a picture. We told him he didn’t have to wear a suit but that was his preference. He loved “Brother Bob” a pastor at our church and he would talk about what a Godly man he was. We listened to Charles Stanley on KHCB and William once asked, “Don’t you just love listening to that man? I sure do!”

He went to Vacation Bible School that year. A friend brought him home and when he came in, I asked, “What happened today?” to which he replied, “I trusted in Jesus today!” I was concerned if he really understood what that meant so he sat on my lap and we talked. He was ready to pray again and I told him that this was an important day in his life. He was now a part of God’s family. I explained that, just like he will always be my son, no matter what, he will also now, be part of God’s family as it says in Romans 8:38-39 “For I am convinced that neither death. nor life. nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God. which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” We saw changes in his life. William never wanted to be held close even as an infant. His hugs were few and he didn’t want to be “too close” even as he got older. I read to him before bedtime because I knew he needed that close contact and he would tolerate it because I was reading to him. After he prayed to receive Christ as his Lord and Savior, he hugged me like “a drowning man!” My parents came over and he did the same to them. Daddy asked, “What happened!!!” and William told them. He was indeed different; God had worked a miracle in his life.

We homeschooled all of our boys. I would be teaching Philip his math lesson and ask him to answer. William would put his hand over his mouth and answer quietly, which did not go over well with his older brother! William loved to be with Me-Mow & Pe- Pow!

He was always my Daddy’s shadow and Daddy loved it. Daddy passed away after 3 months on hospice when William was 7…it was difficult for all of us but especially for William. We were basically living with them during this time. William never walked by my Daddy without leaning over for a hug or a kiss. He loved making treats for anyone who came by to visit, his favorite thing to make was cream cheese & candied jalapeño on Ritz! Whenever he made them, he would say, every single time, “Everything’s better when it sits on a Ritz!”

My sis-in-law began teaching him piano after Daddy passed away and what a blessing that was. William would practice by the hour. We actually both took lessons   and   even    participated    in the same recital once (but William was much better than I was). He loved being with “Aunt Jan and Uncle Dave!”

A few years later he enjoyed playing the drums in the homeschool orchestra.

“Warhammer” was a favorite game. He & his brothers and their friends, especially the Robertson’s boys, Owen & Patrick, would spend weeks painting figures & scenery, then they would play games that lasted all day while we Mom’s chatted & solved the world’s problems.

The Robertson’s have been a tremendous blessing and their sons Owen and Patrick are part of some of our favorite “family stories!” Someone only has to say the first two words of a joke their boys told me 20 years ago, “Two peanuts…” and we all break out in fits laughter!”

William learned to drive and on one excursion he wrecked our friends, the Jackson’s car. They have been more family than friends and a true blessing ever since we met at the Homeschool Valentine Party when I was so in need of a friend due to our recent move. Vanessa, Ryan, Caleb Josh, Grace, Jonathan, Bethany and all of their spouses and kids have and have remained such a blessing in William, Brittany and little Libbye’s life!

William was about 3 when he was at their home in Huffman, looking out the sliding glass patio door at Jack, their dog. He was scared & turned to Ginger & said “He looks like he wants to EAT ME!?”

With 3 older brothers it seemed that the next years went by so fast and all too soon it was time for graduation and College.

He went to Lone Star College, then transferred to Sam Houston where he majored in history. He graduated and Mom broke her foot on the way in to the ceremony in “The Arena!” It seemed that during those years we never had an event without a trip to the hospital with Mama. She and Daddy played such an integral part in all of our boy’s lives!

He went to work and began to figure out what he wanted to do with his life. He soon joined the welding and pipe fitting union apprentice program. He found a job he enjoyed.

Then he met Brittany, and he was twitter- pated. I had never seen William in love and it was obvious that he had found the woman of his dreams. We were thrilled for them. We were able to be with them when little Olivia Crowe Kinison was born! There never was a more precious bundle of pure joy…EVER! A GIRL! We were overjoyed!

  1. Love and condolences to all the Kinison family! We knew Will when he was a twinkle in his folk’s eyes and enjoyed hearing about all the adventures of Will and his three older brothers. Our prayers are with you all.

  2. Will was by the far the most unique person I have ever met. His mind was a vast array of political, religious and philosophical knowledge. He was absolutely relentless when trying to explain/convince people to agree to his way of thinking. Coming into this family I didn’t expect to gain such a good friend. I am not sure he even knew what a piece of the puzzle he was throughout my week. Random texts and political memes. The late night conversations over a kitchen table with drinks. I can’t imagine anyone else ever filling up that place. We will miss you my brother from another mother. Sis Casey!

  3. We are so sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved Son William. Cruz and Tony will pray for Geoff and Ginny and family in these difficult times. We are offering the Mass today for William.

  4. Geoff and Ginny,
My words cannot express how devastated I am for the loss of your son. Please know I am praying for you all the time. You are always in my thoughts and prayers. I love you both and pray our Lord comforts you during this time.
