Obituary
Lucille Elaine Schmid Herter, entered into her heavenly home on Sunday, May 31, 2020. She passed peacefully in her residence at Caring Hands in Porter, TX. She was born June 3, 1930, in Herrin, IL to Rev. Walter and Julia Rose Schmid. She married the love of her life, Thomas Herter, Sr., in August 1949, who preceded her in death in 2005.
Lucille loved to care for her family and friends. She always made sure that they had everything they needed, always caring for others first. She loved to cook, bake, and canned fresh vegetables from Dad’s garden. Most of all, she was a wonderful Christian wife and mom whose love for Jesus as her Savior was present in her daily living. She was determined to make a difference in a person’s life. She began college late in life and graduated with a BS in Social Work at the age of 62. Her smile, spunkiness, “Let me tell you something….” and “Thank you for coming” will be missed by “All.”
Lucille is survived by: her sons Daniel Herter of Advance, MO, Timothy Herter and wife Kathy of The Villages, FL, Thomas Herter, Jr. and wife Victoria from Breaux Bridge, LA, Stephan Herter and wife Charman of Astor, FL, and daughter Melodie Menard of New Caney, TX, her siblings Walter Schmid and wife June of Youngsville, LA, her sisters Lorraine Schmid of Lafayette, LA, and Julie Zersen and husband David of Wauwatosa, WI, five grandsons, four granddaughters, seven great-grandsons, and four great-granddaughters.

You were the brightest star in some of my
darkest days. I’ll never forget you. RIP Ms Lucille
Lucille was a bright star in my travels to Kingwood when I worked for Atria and she lived in the community there. I adored her and we would write each other after I was no longer traveling for my job. I stopped receiving her cards and see that she passed. I will always think of her fondly. She called me her angel and I will always remember her as mine. Condolences to her family.
