Charles Mitchell Mize
Charles Mitchell Mize passed away on February 28, 2020, at age 86. He was born March 18, 1933, to Audell and Opal Mize in Weathersby, Mississippi, and grew up in Magee, Mississippi. He graduated from Magee High School in 1951 where he played football and learned the importance of education. Soon afterward, he married the love of his life Jean Kennedy of Magee and attended the University of Southern Mississippi where he received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Personnel Management.
Upon graduation, he began his career with Shell Oil Company as an accountant. While working for Shell, he was called up by the US Army and served with the 47th Infantry Regiment. He returned to Shell Oil, advancing to supervisor, manager, and other senior positions. During his time with Shell Oil, Charles and his family experienced living in many parts of the country including Louisiana, California, New York, Illinois, Ohio, and Texas.
He retired at age 58 after 36 years with Shell. For the last 40 years of his life, he resided with his family in Kingwood, Texas. Charles enjoyed spending time with family, playing golf and tennis, fishing at his house on Carancahua Bay, hunting with family and friends at Miller Trail, and volunteering as a coach with the Kingwood Forest Cove Baseball Association. Last August, Charles and Jean celebrated 67 wonderful years of marriage.
He is survived by his wife Jean and his children, Brenda and her husband Clay Bowman, and Cynthia and her husband Jason Hillman, grandchildren Alex Bowman and his wife Valerie, Matthew Bowman, Ryan Mize, Reid Hillman, and great granddaughter Vivian Bowman. He is also survived by his sister Johnnie Sue Blackledge and her family, sister-in-law Johnnell McAlpin, as well as nephews, nieces, and cousins.
We will always remember his wit, love of singing and ability to make everyone laugh. We will love and honor him forever.
Our family warmly welcomes friends to visitation on Saturday, March 7, from 10am – 11:30am at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 302 8th Ave SW, Magee, MS, with memorial services immediately following. Interment will be at Goodwater Cemetery followed by lunch at Goodwater Baptist Church, Magee, MS. We would especially like to thank Sandra and David Stewart and Goodwater Church members for helping with arrangements.
Service Information
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2020 from 10 am until 11:30 am at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3025 8th Ave SW, Magee, Mississippi with memorial services immediately following. Interment will be at Goodwater Cemetery followed by lunch at Goodwater Baptist Church, Magee, Mississippi.
