OBITUARY

Mary Louise Nettle Montelongo, 46, was born March 23, 1973 in Houston, Texas, and went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 24, 2020. Mary was a longtime Kingwood resident, and active member of Kingwood First Baptist Church.

Mary grew up in both Houston and Kingwood, often visiting family in East Texas and Fredericksburg, and spending time with her brother and cousins. She was a graduate of Kingwood High School, and studied at Blinn College.

Mary was a loving wife to Jay, and a devoted mother to Austin David, Alyssa, and Ashley. Her faith was her priority along with her unconditional love for her family.

Mary worked with children in many capacities: mentoring teens, teaching at Mother’s Day Out at KFBC, working in the Cleveland ISD system, and volunteering to teach Sunday School with her husband Jay. She related well to children of all ages, and was a role model for many.

Mary’s dedication and loyalty to KFBC cannot be overstated. She grew up in the church, participating in youth activities. As an adult she was an active member, volunteering to teach Sunday school and committing herself to countless projects. Mary also worked for the church part time. Her fellowship and generous giving spirit will be missed by the church family.

Mary relentlessly fought her decade-long battle with cancer. Her faith in the Lord prepared her for the countless physical and mental hurdles she overcame. She was thankful to have Jay as a partner in this battle. The love and support of her family and friends also strengthened her resolve. She was often comforted by those with whom she could discuss her love for Jesus. Mary’s faith and strength in the face of adversity truly served as an inspiration.

Mary was preceded in death by her mother, Beverly Nettle, her father Douglas “DC” Nettle, and her cousin David Hancock. She is survived by her devoted husband Joseph “Jay” Montelongo, son Austin David, daughters Alyssa and Ashley, brother Austin Nettle, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, family and dear friends. She will be missed, celebrated, and remembered by all who knew her.
