OBITUARY

Harrison M. Ward

January 31, 1990 – June 7, 2019

To the many friends and family who loved him, it’s clear that Harrison Mathewes Ward positively influenced them in many ways.

These are just a few of the ways that friends and family describe him. Harrison was compassionate, accepting, encouraged the best in others, and had a sense of humor. He was extremely knowledgeable, partly due to his love of reading. You name a topic, and he could easily converse about it. It was a common refrain that “Harrison wrote Wikipedia.” He was always ready to listen and help if someone had a problem, or even just to give one of his famous great hugs. Harrison made friends with a diverse group of people; anywhere you went with him, someone would come up and say hi.

Harrison, who was loved by many, passed from his life at 29 years old on June 7, 2019. Harrison is survived by his parents, Mel and Linda Ward, of Kingwood, Texas; his older sister, Amanda Combs, of Cypress, Texas; his niece, Camille Combs, of Cypress, Texas; and his grandmother, Doris Ward, of Splendora, Texas.

Born on January 31, 1990, in Houston, Texas, Harrison grew up in Kingwood. Throughout his childhood, he enjoyed music, gaming, skateboarding and taekwondo—achieving his black belt and many awards.

Living in the Midtown area of Houston for the last several years, Harrison continued to remain active and pursued many interests. He loved bicycling and rode his bike everywhere. He also loved to listen to, play, and create music. He played many instruments, but he especially loved guitar, and recently he completed an album of his ambient techno music.

Another one of Harrison’s passions was food. In the last few years, he worked at a vegan bakery to broaden his knowledge of different types of food. To his coworkers, he had a special knack for knowing how to pair certain foods together and which flavors blended best. The bakery’s owner said that she really leaned on him and didn’t trust anyone else’s taste buds, especially during the crucial holiday periods. With his culinary talents and passion for food, he had aspirations to one day open his own food business.

As someone who was always willing to give his time for others and causes greater than himself, Harrison was particularly concerned for the homeless population. To that end, donations can be sent in his name to the Star of Hope Mission in Houston, Texas. Donations can also be directed toward the maintenance of Pecan Grove Cemetery in Ruston, Louisiana.

  1. To the Family, so sorry for your loss. Hope you will be comforted in knowing that Harrison has the prospect of being resurrected, healthy (in the flesh), to Paradise Earth just as Jehovah God has promised. In fact , the vast majority will enjoy everlasting life right here on earth as God had intended from the beginning. God’s Kingdom will do this under the rule of Jesus Christ.
