Henderson, Bruce

February 15, 1951 - February 25, 2019

Bruce Henderson, age 68, passed away peacefully at home on the 25th of February, 2019. He fought a hard and courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer and his spirits were good until the end.

He was born in Corbridge, Northumberland on the 15th of February, 1951 to Ralph and Audrey Henderson. He attended St. Andrews University in Scotland, graduating with a degree in Geology and Bio Chemistry. He began his long career in the oil and gas industry with Exploration Logging in 1974. This took him all over the world, living in many countries before eventually settling in Kingwood in 1989. He was well respected in the oil industry, working his way up from the initial mud logging work to finish in executive level.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Kate, and sons William (Erica), Rhu (Rachael), and Sebastian (Jennifer). He was especially proud of his grandchildren Hannah & Owen, and Jack & Alan. He is also survived by his brothers Ralph and Peter in England and his cousins in South Africa and Australia. Family was his bedrock and he took great joy in family life.

He lived a good and large life filled with travel both for work and holiday adventures – hiking, kayaking down the Rio Grande in Big Bend, watching gorillas in Rwanda, and bush taxi journeys in West Africa. He and Kate have the dubious achievement of standing on the top of two live volcanoes – Mt. Etna in Italy and Mt. Nyiragongo in the Congo. Life was always to be lived and challenged. Time spent in the South Texas hunting camp was an important part of his life too.

His Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 Friday, March 1, at Darst Funeral Home.
