Vellar Ree Head June 25, 1933 to April 12, 2018
Vellar Ree Head was born on June 25, 1933 in Tenaha, Shelby County, Texas, to parents David Solomon Collins and Annie Laura Erwin Collins who married on October 25, 1919. She was fourth of five children born to her parents.
In early 1955, Vellar Ree moved to Houston, TX with her soon to be husband, Melvin Ray Powdrill, shortly after moving they were married on October 14, 1955 in Houston, Harris County, TX. The couple had three children together, Shelia Lynn, Teri Rene and Glen Allen.
Later in life in 1984, Vellar Ree was remarried to Charles Raymond Head, until 1998, in Benton County, Tennessee. After the time of Charles passing, she became a widow and returned home to Texas and resided with her children, Teri Rene Powdrill and Glen Allen Powdrill who cared for her until she went to be with the Lord.
Vellar Ree is survived by her sister, Helon Adelle Mena of Shreveport, LA; her daughter, Shelia Lynn Powdrill Salinas of Arlington, TX; her son-in-law, Adolfo Salinas, of Arlington, TX; her daughter, Teri Rene Powdrill, of Kingwood, TX; and her son, Glen Allen Powdrill, of Kingwood, TX.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Raymond Head, of 16 years; her late husband, Melvin Ray Powdrill, of 17 years; her father, David Solomon Collins; her mother, Annie Laura Erwin Collins, of Shelby County, TX; her oldest brother, Elvis Elton Collins, of Shelby, TX; her middle brother, Elzie Lee Collins, of San Antonio, TX; her younger brother, Theo Collins of Houston, TX.
Vellar Ree was a loving mother, great friend, socially active woman who was deeply involved in nature and the beauty of living in harmony with our ecosystems for the majority of her life. She enjoyed gardening to all avail, taking care of her pet cats, Lil Kit and Thang, all while living a dynamic lifestyle socializing with all neighbors and friends. Her family and friends will always remember her as a caring, nurturing mother and friend.
Vellar Ree Collins Head, age 84, of Joaquin, TX departed this life after a battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and atrial fibrillation of her heart on Thursday, April 12, 2018, in Kingwood, TX.
